Theracurmin Modulates Cardiac Inflammation in Experimental Model of Trypanosoma cruzi Infection

Theracurmin is a nanoparticle formulation derived from curcumin, bioactive compound known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiological agent of Chagas disease, triggers an intense inflammatory response in mammals also causes severe tissue damage. To evaluate immunomodulatory antiparasitic effects Theracurmin, Swiss mice were experimentally infected with 103 trypomastigote forms Colombian strain T. cruzi submitted to daily therapy 30 mg/kg Theracurmin. In addition, benznidazole (100 mg/kg) was performed as positive control. We evaluated systemic parasitism, survival body mass rate, release mediators (TNF, IL-6, IL-15, CCL2 creatine kinase) inflammation at day post-infection. reduced parasitemia curve without altering animals’ it protected losing mass. cardiac tissue, IL-15 skeletal plasma CK. Even on TNF IL-6 production amastigote nests, leukocyte infiltrate both tissues, even case more effective results observed treatment. Our data suggest has (CCL2, CK infiltration) trypanocidal effect (on circulating parasites) during experimental infection triggered by cruzi. Further investigations are necessary comprehend role combination or other potential anti-T. chemical compounds.
